Scandalous spam

I received an e-mail from Pepsi this morning/last night/whatever. It's promoting Black History Month and a chance to win an iBook by writing an essay, how winning an ibook would help your future goals - the contest is entitled, " Pepsi Vision Of The Future Essay Contest Official Rules". I will probably take part in the writing of this essay, but I was weary whether or not the colour of one's skin might be a factor to Pepsi. I read the rules, one of the paragraphs describing how to win a Black History Calendar for submiting an essay is this:

"Once you have submitted your essay, you are eligible to receive a free Black History Month calendar from Pepsi. In order to qualify, you must send a Black History Month E-card to at least five (5) friends from the same email address used to submit that essay. Limit one online entry per name and per email address per each consecutive twenty-four (24) hour period."

Here are the topics for the different e-cards:

  • "A friendly reminder that February is Black History Month, and you could win an iBook® from Pepsi!"

  • "Your friend wants you to celebrate Black History Month with a chance to win an iBook® from Pepsi."

  • "Thought you’d like to know that you could win an iBook® during Black History Month at Pepsi.com."

  • "Help Pepsi celebrate Black History Month in the Vision of the Future Essay Contest."

If I was a marketing person over at Pepsi, I would also include important achievements in black history. Instead of looking like a sleazy corporation, why not include some information to education the world. But I forget, by being a dumb society, we buy more Pepsi products.

On a similar topic, I went to a minority high school, an inner-city magnet high school. There were about 30-50 white kids in the entire school. Black history month was the most important month, they ran a contest everyday with a different achievement in black history. Over the PA, they would describe the person and the students who knew the answer would fill out paper and throw it in a box in the main office. The staff at one point told me to stop turning in the answers because it would look bad if a white kid won the contest, and I was in the lead.

Fuck them and their contest. Much like affirmative action, that was bullshit. If the black kid is a dumbshit, treat him like one. What difference doesn't it make what color he/she is?

On a tangent, when's white catholic month? I want one of those......
